Skin Sins
Are you committing these 3 skin sins? We can help!
SKIN SIN #1
#1 - Not Using Retinol
If you know every word to "I Want it That Way" (AND you know who BSB are), retinol should be part of your everyday routine.
Retinol is a gold-standard ingredient in skincare because it alters the behaviour of mature cells, so they act in a more youthful manner.
Three Big Reasons Why You Should Add Retinol to Your Routine:
Smooths and refines skin's texture, enhancing skin radiance
It prevents wrinkles due to its minimizing effect, smoothing out existing fine lines and wrinkles.
Fade dark age spots, sunspots, hyperpigmentation and even out complexion over time
When you are ready for your slumber, after washing your face with your cleanser of choice, apply a pea-size amount on your face (3-4 drops if it's a serum) - wait at least 30 seconds to a minute before applying your next step. Results will be visible in three to six months of continuous use.
Three Of My Favs:
Cerave Resurfacing Retinol
Targeted for post-acne scars – very gentle for first-time users
Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Retinol Oil
By FAR my favourite over the counter – super approachable price point and effective if used regularly
Note this oil is slightly fragranced
La Roche Posay Redermic Retinol Intensive Anti-Aging Treatment Cream
SKIN SIN #2
#2 - Not Wearing SPF
The Basics of Application
Apply the sunscreen at least 20 to 30 minutes before you go outdoors, whenever you are exposed for 30 minutes or more.
Reapply sunscreen every 2 hours while outdoors, even if the product is labelled "all-day." - If you get wet or perspire heavily, reapply sunscreen more frequently.
Cover all exposed areas: ears, lips, face, and neck.
Don't skimp; apply a generous layer. Smooth it on rather than rub it in.
A rule of thumb is to use three-finger lengths of sunscreen to cover all exposed skin to attain the SPF level of protection.
This should always be the FINAL step of your DAY skincare routine.
apply sunscreen under makeup
Mineral VS Chemical
There is a lot of debate out there about which one is better for you: honestly, find a sunscreen that you love and use it every day.
If it has a minimum of SPF 30, it's right for you.
Three of My Favs:
Cerave AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion with 30 SPF (Chemical)
Vichy Ideal Soleil Ultra Light Lotion SPF 50 (mineral)
No white cast and super light consistency
Black Girl Sunscreen - (Hybrid - Mineral/Chemical)
My ULTIMATE FAV
No white cast and super nourishing
(I will only use this during the day, no additional moisturizer)
SKIN SIN #3
#3 - Cleansing Too Quickly
What's the Dirt?
Makeup, dirt, and oil are a lot more challenging to remove from the skin most people realize
Give the cleanser a chance to break down and dissolve products and
Take a minimum of 20 seconds to rub your cleanser into your skin (60 seconds is PERFECT)
Pay attention to your skin, remembering to cleanse around the edges of your nose, under your chin, and around your hairline.
Unless you have oily skin or use medicated creams for skin conditions, use your face wash at night.
Three of My Favs:

Super approachable price point
Light and effective without drying effects
Cerave Foaming Facial Cleanser Daily Face Wash

SKIN SIN #4
#4 - Not Hydrating Your Skin
Give Us One Reason WHY
Did you know that one gram of Hyaluronic Acid can hold up to six litres of water?
A powerful humectant – bringing moisture to the surface of the skin
Will continually keep skin moisturized throughout the day
It gives the skin a visible plumping effect
And a bonus is glowly looking skin
Hyaluronic Acid is naturally occurring in our bodies, but as we get older, the production naturally begins to decrease
In just one use, you will see immediate results
Application To Do's
Your face must be damp to gain the full benefits of HA. Use a spray bottle to spritz your face and apply HA to the face - give it 20-30 seconds to absorb and immediately use your moisturizer to seal in those benefits.
